Hammerheads Runner Up at MTSL State Meet

The Hammerhead Swim Club entered championship season poised for success, and about halfway through the championship season, they are living up to expectations. On February 25, 39 swimmers participated in the MTSL State Swim meet at Saginaw Valley State University. Hammerhead Swim Club finished in 2nd place behind Midland Dolphins. The Hammerheads were 400 points ahead of the 3rd place St. John's Sea Lions and more than 700 points ahead of the closest northern team, Thunder Bay who finished in 5th place. In addition to placing 2nd overall as a team, Hammerheads scored well in every age group, with many top 3 finishes:

The Hammerheads also had several MTSL State Champions:

  • Karina Larkin, 8 and Under Girls, 100 Individual Medley; 50 Freestyle
  • Maeve Riley, 11-12 Girls, 100 Individual Medley; 50 Butterfly
  • Alana Springborn, 9-10 Girls, 50 Backstroke
  • Addy Wiers, 13-14 Girls, 200 Freestyle; 500 Freestyle
  • Owen Crook, 13-14 Boys, 200 Freestyle; 500 Freestyle; 100 Backstroke
  • Annika Gandhi, 15-18 Girls, 100 Freestyle; 100 Breaststroke
  • 9-10 Boys 200 Freestyle Relay: Yul Springborn, Canon Byma, Lincoln Edgerton, Wesley Frentz

The Hammerhead Swim Club also had 27 swimmers represent the team at the USA Regional Championships in Grand Rapids, March 2-3. The Hammerheads finished in 3rd place for the Small Team Division. Hammerhead swimmers had fast swims, with several athletes achieving USA State Championship Times. The team now has 13 swimmers qualified in the USA Championship Meets, making it the largest number of swimmers to make it to a USA Championship in the last 8 years. Eight Hammerhead swimmers were Regional Champions:

  •      Eva Rindfusz, 13-14 Girls, 50 Freestyle
  •      Alana Springborn, 9-10 Girls, 50 Butterfly
  •      Hadley Corlew, 11-12 Girls, 200 Breaststroke
  •      Maeve Riley, 11-12 Girls, 100 Backstroke, 500 Freestyle
  •      Owen Crook, 13-14 Boys, 100 Butterfly, 200 Breaststroke
  •      Annika Gandhi, 15-18 Girls, 200 Individual Medley

The season will conclude with USA Swimming Age Group Championship meets over the next three weeks. Congratulations to all the Hammerhead swimmers on a successful season!
